AUTUMN QUARTER 2008
(September - December)

Noises Off

By Michael Frayn
Directed by Maureen Ryan
October 30, 31, November 1 at 7:30 pm
November 2 at 3:00 pm
November 6, 7, 8 at 7: 30 pm
November 9 at 3:00 pm
Thurber Theatre

Arguably one of the best farces ever written, Noises Off is Tony Award winning playwright Michael Frayn’s popular side-splitting comedy.  Sight lines begin to blur as the cast of a traditional sex farce called Nothing On rehearses and performs while plenty of drama brews backstage.  As the performance of Nothing On rapidly deteriorates on stage, the characters find themselves making entrances into an even bigger mess backstage.

Pangea

By Stephen R. Culp
Directed by Jimmy Bohr
November 13, 14, 15 at 7:30 pm
November 16 at 3:00 pm
November 18, 19, 20, 21 at 7:30 pm
November 23 at 3:00 pm
Roy Bowen Theatre

One by one, scientists at a remote outpost in Antarctica are undergoing horrifying behavioral changes. The search for a missing woman leads to a deeply disturbing encounter in a seedy Istanbul nightclub. An anti-globalization activist is tortured in a dark CIA prison. Mind control? Global corporate conspiracy? The fate of mankind? It all drifts together like the continents in the California bedroom of a 15-year-old boy. Pangea is a terrifying and intriguing exploration of 21st century "what-ifs.”

The ten actors of OSU Theatre’s Master of Fine Arts in Acting program will create a new work based on their collaborative workshops, interviews and research with Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) “an independent non-profit agency serving refugees, asylees and immigrants in central Ohio.”  You won’t want to miss this timely community impact event.  For more information about CRIS, visit www.cris-ohio.com.

Directed by Lesley Ferris
February 26, 27, 28 at 7:30 pm
March 1 at 3:00 pm
March 4, 5, 6 at  7:30 pm
Roy Bowen Theatre

A 1928 Broadway hit, Machinal is a story of seclusion careening into murder.  Using the astounding 1927 murder trial of Ruth Snyder as a catalyst for her conjecture, Treadwell investigates the motivations of an apparently harmless stenographer to commit murder.  For Treadwell, what happens when a young eager woman keen for life and love is trampled by the industrial quality of her life?

SPRING QUARTER 2009
(April - June)

Godspell

Conceived and Originally Directed by John-Michael Tebelak
Music and New Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz
Originally Produced on the New York Stage by
Edgar Lansbury / Stuart Duncan / Joseph Beruh

Directed by Mandy Fox
April 16 at 8 pm
April 17 at 11 am and 8 pm
April 18 at 2 pm and 8 pm
April 19 at 3:00 pm
CAPA’s Southern Theatre

Godspell sprang from a graduate student's master's thesis workshop production and ultimately developed into one of the biggest musical theatre successes of all time. Using the Episcopal Hymnal and the Gospel according to Matthew as source materials, a musical celebration of the parables of Christ comes to life in song and dance.  Featuring such memorable songs as "Day by Day,” "All Good Gifts" and "By My Side," the musical score by Stephen Schwartz has become a Broadway legend.

With Godspell we celebrate our return to the historic Southern Theatre in downtown Columbus and once again partner with CAPA to bring our outstanding student work to an even wider audience.

Student Generated New Work

Spring quarter offers two different venues to showcase the remarkable new work created by our imaginative group of graduate and undergraduate students.

As the final project for our three-year Master of Fine Arts in Acting program, each of the ten students will share their artistry with an original solo project.  In a festival atmosphere in our Mount Hall Studio Theatre, groups of five will perform their works on successive nights, pushing themselves to new creative heights and challenging our audience with the best of contemporary new work.

May 7 at 7:30 pm - Group A
May 8 at 7:30 pm - Group B
May 9 at 3:00 pm - Group A
May 9 at 7:30 pm - Group B
May 10 at 3:00 pm - Group B
May 10 at 7:30 pm - Group A
Studio Theatre

Focus later in the quarter shifts to our undergraduate new work creators with only four performances of a unique project to be produced in the Roy Bowen Theatre.  Given the theme of "change" as an inspiration, teams of undergraduate students will present original work they have developed throughout the course of the school year.  This "sandbox" production will be supported with the limited props, costumes, and scenic elements.  The rest is up to the imagination of the students and audience alike.
